Gradall Forklift Parts - During the period when World War II created a scarcity of laborers, the famous Gradall excavator was established in the 1940s as the brainchild of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. Partners in a Cleveland, Oceanside construction company known as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge dilemma when a lot of men left the workforce and joined the military, depleting available workers for the delicate grading and finishing work on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers chose to make an equipment that would save their business by making the slope grading job more efficient, less manual and easier.

Their very first design prototype was a device with two beams set on a rotating platform that was attached on top of a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams back and forth which allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to push or pull dirt. Before long enhancing the very first design, the brothers built a triangular boom so as to add more strength. What's more, they added a tilt cylinder that let the boom rotate 45 degrees in both directions. A cylinder was placed at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to enable the machine to be outfitted with either a bucket or a blade attachment.

Gradall introduced in the year 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their machines ever since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to provide high productivity and comparable power to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series ended the original Gradall equipment power drawn from low pressure hydraulics and gear pumps. These conventional systems successfully handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity jobs.

Gradall's new XL Series excavators showed more ability to dig and lift materials. With this series, the models were produced along with a piston pump, high-pressure system of hydraulics that showed distinct improvement in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed with a load-sensing capability. Conventional excavators make use of an operator to choose a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power intended for the job at hand. This makes the operator's overall job easier and even conserves fuel simultaneously.

As soon as the new XL Series hydraulics reached the market, Gradall was thrust into the extremely competitive industrial machine market that are meant to deal with excavating, demolition, pavement removal and other industrial tasks. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further enhance the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to work in low overhead areas and to better position attachments.
